4-channel video installation (2026), work-in-progress

Mines operate often in the semi-visible, in the hyperlocal. However, they have large scale impacts on socio-ecologies. Recorded at and around the worlds first major rare-earth elements mine in the Mojave Desert, the installation «gREEn new deals or(e) scars» investigates contemporary material extraction and energy production paradigms that are promoted for a green future and historical media technology. The history of media technology and hence the devices I used for recording and later showcasing the work are entangled in these extraction histories and presents, highlighting my own complicity. «gREEn new deals or(e) scars» aims to produce political aesthetics that imagine a time when those elements might not be abundant anymore, in thus speculating about a future which is non-ignorant of socio-ecological justice and beyond-human ethics.
